「日経サイエンス」2010年9月号 書評欄 「森山和道の読書日記」掲載
中東の山岳地帯が原産と考えられるタマネギ、インド北部原産のナス、アメリカ大陸原産のトマトやジャガイモ、トウモロコシなど、野菜の原産地を訪ねた旅行記 『 世界の野菜を旅する 』 は実に楽しい一冊である。
どのページも野菜に関する蘊蓄が満載で、しかも嫌味なところがない。ポルトガルではイワシの塩焼きにキャベツの味噌汁に似たスープを飲めるとか、ペルーでも日本と同じく生の魚介を食べるといった、世界各国の食文化の話題も楽しい。ともかく楽しい本なのだ。毎日食べているのに野菜について全く知らないことに気づかせてくれる本だった。

今回は、情報のファインダビリティやアバイラビリティ、といったことについて本を紹介したいと思います。
これからの情報機器が、機能ごとに分化してより専用機器化、この雑誌的に言えば組み込み機器としての度合いをどんどん増していくことはほぼ自明だと思いますが、そのような社会がどうなるか、あるいはどのような機能あるいはインターフェースが必要とされるかを考えるためには、この２点が重要だと思うからです。
情報をどのように見つけ、獲得するか。「知識」や「知恵」の発見しやすさ、得やすさは、状況に依存して大きく変化します。「人脈」が重要視される理由もここにあります。これを技術でより風通しよくすること。それが求められていると思います。
